Running on Green

Deliver Magazine | 09/07/2009

...“Our research shows consumers are more likely to be loyal to dealerships that have a vested interest in their communities,” says Chuck Patton, chief executive officer and owner of Traffic Builders, the Louisville, Kentucky–based direct marketing agency that developed the initiative. “Now dealers can demonstrate to customers that they’re making efforts to change the community’s future.” Traffic Builders’ turnkey creative solution includes use of paper stock containing a minimum of 10 percent recycled fibers. Reach Out The Right Way

Investors Business Daily | 02/27/2009

Resist sweeping cuts. Traffic Builders President Chuck Patton direct-markets services for car dealerships. Talk about a tough audience. Patton says while new car sales are down, service departments still offer income potential. “So I talk (dealers) into approaching marketing strategies with a scalpel instead of an ax,” he said. “I'm still bringing customers over the curb.” Conserve. Patton didn't want his direct mail pieces to appear wasteful, so he launched “We Auto Go Green” last year. By January, he had 100 dealers signed on to use only recycled materials and green printing practices such as computerized pre-press operations and solvent recycling for direct mailers.

Instead of bumping up costs, Patton asks dealers for a one-year commitment and looks to printers for volume-based discounts. “So far we've been mostly successful on those negotiations,” he said. Each direct mail piece features the “We Auto Go Green” logo and Web site so consumers can note the environmentally friendly shift. Read more »
